Lesson 4: Planning the Presentation

Presentation Tips

When you are confident that you know to whom you are presenting, concentrate on the presentation.

Click on the tabs below for the process to reveal presentation tips.

  • Set up in advance and test everything – that means arriving early.
  • Introduce yourself and the members of your sales presentation team.
  • Involve the prospect or customer in a conversation as soon as possible by telling stories, using analogies, and asking questions to develop an emotional connection.
  • Define and address the wants and needs of your prospects.

  • Showcase the product – let the product be the star.  Be entertaining.
  • Use visual words and physical descriptions – do not read your presentation.
  • Use visual aids identifying your company, its accomplishments, and what it will do for your audience.
  • Use the 10-20-30 Rule: no more than 10 slides that last no longer than 20 minutes with text no less than 30-point font.  Keep this in mind regardless of the presentation software that is being used.  Some adjustments may have to be made, but try to keep it close to these guidelines.
  • Demonstrate your product and facilitate customer hands-on activities.
  • Stay in control – acknowledge questions and indicate that they will be addressed.
  • Involve all of the senses if possible.
  • Know precisely the action you want your audience to take at the end.
  • Practise.
  • Practise.
  • Practise.
