Braiding Rag Rugs
Rugs can be round, oval or rectangular.
- Cut strips into 3 to 6 cm wide lengths with the grain of the fabric.
- Roll the cut fabric strip into a reel then feed through cone. The cone will shape the strip as it is used.
- Strips are sewn together at the machine.
- The simplest type of braid is composed of three strips of fabric. Anchor strip ends to a table using a clamp, then keeping strips taut, braid.
- Rugs can be round, oval or rectangular. To allow the rug to be flat, the center portion is firmly shaped.
- Yarn can be braided instead of fabric strips. This results is much finer results.
