Crochet Techniques



The Single Crochet


The single crochet stitch is the most fundamental of all stitches in crocheting. The compact single crochet stitch creates a tight, dense fabric.

The Single Crochet 

  1. To begin row, insert hook from the front under the two top threads of second chain (ch) from hook.

  3. Catch thread with hook and draw through stitch (st). There are now two loops on hook.

  4. Thread over and draw through two loops. One loop remains on hook. One single crochet (sc) is now completed.
  5. Repeat until you have made a single crochet in every chain.
  6. To begin the second row, turn your work. Chain one for the turning chain (does not count as a stitch). Insert hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first single crochet in the row below, yarn over, draw yarn through stitch, yarn over, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook (first single crochet complete). Repeat this step in each single crochet across.
