Read the following safety guidelines before you start your sewing project. Some of these safety guidelines may not pertain to your textile art but are still important within sewing safety.
Practice safety at the sewing machine.
- Position fingers carefully away from the needle when guiding fabric under the presser foot.
- Sit at the sewing machine with your head a comfortable distance from the sewing machine.
- Sew at a reasonable speed that is comfortable for you.
- Unplug the sewing machine before investigating or clearing unwanted threads in the bobbin case.
- Unplug the sewing machine when cleaning and oiling or when changing the light bulb or needle.
- Be organized when sewing. Do not allow others to distract you.
- Do not sew over pins. It is advisable to wear safety glasses to protect your eyes in case of a pin break.
