Measuring Tools


Using the proper equipment and tools will make your sewing time more productive and fun. There are tools for measuring, cutting, hand sewing, pressing, marking, and many other sewing activities.

  • Tape measure - a flexible tape with metal tips used for taking body measurements.

  • Metrestick - a hardwood stick used for taking long straight measurements.

  • T-square - a T-shaped ruler used for locating cross grains, altering patterns, or squaring edges.

  • Seam gauge - a short ruler with a sliding marker that adjusts to varying lengths.
