Welcome to Social Studies 9-4!

Social studies is the study of people in relation to each other and to their world. Throughout this course, you will develop the key values, attitudes, knowledge, understandings, skills, and processes necessary for you to become an active and responsible citizen who is engaged in the democratic process while being aware of your ability to effect change in your community, society, and the world.
In this course, you will examine the relationship between Canada's political and legislative processes and the impact of this relationship on issues regarding governance, rights, citizenship, and identity. You will also explore economic issues and their impact on quality of life, citizenship, and identity in Canada and the United States.
You will complete a variety of lessons based on six themes:
- Theme 1: Governing Canada
- Theme 2: Canada's Rights and Freedoms
- Theme 3: Immigration and Canadian Citizenship
- Theme 4: Canada's Economic Development
- Theme 5: Consumerism and Quality of Life
- Theme 6: Preserving Canada's Way of Life
- There is no textbook required
for the course, and you will work both online and with your teacher to
complete the lessons and activities that are a part of each theme. There
will also be opportunities for you to think about and show what you have
learned.

- There is also a glossary for this course. You will notice that important words have been highlighted in pink. When you put your cursor over one of these words and click on it, you will be able to read a definition for it.
