Throughout Canada's history, millions of immigrants have helped build our country. We welcome people from more than 150 countries each year. There are many different reasons that people choose to immigrate. Many people come to Canada because it is a better way of life for themselves and their families.

Canada has one of the most positive immigration policies in the world. In terms of standards of living, the United Nations has voted Canada as one of the best places in the world to live.

Here are just a few of the reasons why some people come to Canada.

  • The United Nations has often rated Canada as the best country in the world to live in. Canada has one of the highest standards of living and best quality of life.
  • Canada is a fast growing, modern, industrialized nation and one of the richest countries in the world.
  • Hundreds of thousands of new jobs are created each year, and Canadians earn an average annual income of approximately $49,000.
  • Canada is known for their top quality education programs.
  • Canadians have access to social assistance programs, affordable housing, free health care, and a strong government.
  • Community policing, strict gun control laws, and a fair justice system make Canada safe and secure for everyone.
  • Canada encourages immigrants to retain their unique culture. We try to understand and appreciate the cultures, customs, and traditions of all Canadians, whether they were born in Canada or came here from another country.

When a person emigrates, they leave their own country in order to settle permanently in another.

What would it be like to emigrate to a new country? Try to imagine yourself packing up all your belongings into a couple of suitcases and moving to a new country where people may not speak the same language as you or look the same as you do. The story you are about to read is an older story of immigration because it took place in the 1940s. It is a good look at what it is like for people who immigrate to a new country.
