Lesson 14Activity 1: Fair Working Conditions

Warm Up

Do you have a job? Although you may not have a regular job, you may do odd jobs like yard work, babysitting, or snow removal.

Think back to the working conditions of the past that you learned about in the last lesson. Those conditions have changed over time.

In this activity, you will learn about the fair working conditions of today.

Employers now have to follow certain rules and regulations that ensure that working conditions are much better than ever before. Many employees now have unions that protect them against long hours of work without any type of compensation and health benefits.

If you think back to what you learned about the working conditions people endured during the Industrial Revolution or during slavery, you will remember that none of the things listed above were ever considered. Now employers can get in trouble if they don't consider them.
