Theme 6: Introduction

  Responding as a Citizen

Before you begin this theme, think about this:

Due to globalization, governments around the world have worked together to put into place policies and actions that will help to impact the environment.

Globalization has also impacted the quality of life of individuals and communities. Governments, organizations, and businesses have had to address the opportunities and challenges of globalization.

It is also important for individuals to think about how to demonstrate active and responsible global citizenship.

In this theme, you will learn about agreements regarding climate change and global warming. You will learn about the importance of clean air and about agreements regarding air quality. You will look at economic agreements between countries and then focus on how organizations are working to ensure individuals are accorded basic human rights. To end this theme, you will learn how businesses work to improve the quality of life of employees and people in communities both locally and around the world. Then you will think about how people may work to become active and responsible global citizens.
