Lesson 4: Solutions in the Environment

You use many solutions at home and in the workplace. How these solutions are packaged and disposed of, how acidic or basic substances are, and how solutions react all has something to do with chemistry. This lesson will help you understand how people use chemistry to simplify their lives and protect the environment.

In this lesson, you will learn:

  • about the differences between concentrated and diluted solutions
  • how using concentrated solutions helps the environment
  • how to identify acids and bases
  • how to interpret pH
  • about the factors that affect corrosion

Key terms for this lesson:

  • dilute
  • acid
  • base
  • pH scale
  • neutralization
  • corrosion
  • rusting
