Theme 3:

Investigating Living Systems

What is your body made up of? How does your body work and what makes it work? Scientists have long searched for answers to these questions. Humans begin as a single cell. When scientists invented microscopes, they discovered that all living organisms are made up of cells.

Then theories were developed about how living things grow, digest food, reproduce, and survive. Modern technology has added to this knowledge by providing the diagnosis of injuries and diseases and how to treat these.

In this theme, you will learn about all of these things. You will learn about both plant and animal cells and about life functions common to all living things. You will also learn about some of our human body systems and about technologies that are used to monitor life functions.

This theme has four lessons:

  • Lesson 9 — Structure and Function of Plant and Animal Cells
  • Lesson 10 — Life Functions Common to Living Systems
  • Lesson 11 — Human Body Systems
  • Lesson 12 — Monitoring Critical Life Functions
