help carry out life functions
- include calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and iodine
Water:
- essential for life as it used in every life function
- the amount taken in from food and drink must match the amount that is eliminated from the body

Fibre is also an important component of a healthy, balanced diet. We get fibre from plant-based foods, but it's not something the body can absorb. Fibre is not a nutrient and contains no calories or vitamins, but it helps your digestive system to process food and absorb nutrients.
