Enlarging a Pattern and Following Directions from Magazines

If the pattern is shown in a magazine, you probably will have to enlarge it. Use a pencil and ruler to draw equal squares on the pattern shown in the magazine. On a larger piece of paper draw larger equal squares. Copy the markings from each small square to the larger squares, working accurately. Frequently stand back to look at the larger pattern to see if it appears correct. You may have used this same process to enlarge cartoons in junior high art class!

Read and become familiar with the magazine's suggested step-by step directions. Use an old sheet or inexpensive fabric to make a trial project. At this time, you may wish to make some pattern or instruction changes.

When you feel comfortable with the pattern pieces, the sewing techniques and the step-by step instructions, you may purchase fabric and cut your own pattern.
