Check the fibre content on the label found on the end of the fabric bolt. The fiber content will enable you to determine whether fabric should be preshrunk and also to determine how the fabric should be pressed and cleaned.
Fabric is also sold in different widths. Most popular bolt widths are
- 90 cm
- 15 cm
- 150 cm
You must know the width of the fabric to determine how much fabric length to purchase.
Avoid purchasing plaids and stripes which have the design rolled on to the fabric surface. These fabrics are difficult to lay out because the design is sometimes not printed straight with the fabric grainline.
