Comparing and Ordering Mixed Numbers



You likely have heard the expression that one cannot compare apples to oranges. The same is true when trying to compare fractions that have different denominators. It is not possible to change apples to oranges or vice versa, but fractions can be compared if they are converted to equivalent fractions with the same denominator.
