Theme 3: Introduction

Theme 3: Metric and Imperial Measurement

Tell me the measurements!

Are you measuring in metric or imperial units?

Does it matter?

Yes! They are different systems.

The two measurement systems β€” metric and imperial β€” are not the same. They are very different, and both systems are not always used to measure the same thing. You will find, however, that there are some items and products that will have both a metric and an imperial measurement, so it is important to know about both systems.

In this theme, you will investigate the metric and imperial systems of measurements that we use for length, mass, and capacity. You will practise making accurate measurements using both systems, and you will learn to convert between the systems using simple tables and tools. You will also solve problems using both systems in the home and in community contexts.

This theme includes four lessons:

  • Lesson 12 β€” A Look at Metric Measurements
  • Lesson 13 β€” A Look at Imperial Measurements
  • Lesson 14 β€” Metric and Imperial Conversions within the Systems
  • Lesson 15 β€” Metric and Imperial Conversions between the Systems
