Lesson 19 Activity 1: Estimating Angles  



You may remember learning about different types of angles. Let's begin by reviewing the five different types of angles.


There are five different types of angles.





For this activity, you will practise estimating the measurements of angles. You can estimate the size of an angle by comparing it to an angle that you already know — like the five angles above!

For example, estimate the size of the angle below using the acute angle as your comparison.







Let's try another one! Estimate the size of the angle below by using the obtuse angle above as your comparison.

Estimate the size of the angles below by comparing them to the five angles above.







This angle looks similar to the acute angle above since that one is 40 degrees. This angle must be less than 90 degrees, so I would estimate this angle to be about 40 degrees.




This angle looks slightly bigger than the obtuse angle above, which was 150 degrees. This angle must be greater than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees, so I would estimate this angle to be about 160 degrees.
