The Importance of Water

Water is the most essential nutrient for athletic performance.

Water makes up about 60 to 80% of our body weight.  Water contains zero calories, but it is still considered a nutrient.  A good hydration strategy is an essential part of every athlete's preparation for competition.  Athletes should look at what to consume as well as the timing of consumption and the amounts needed for optimal performance.  Hydration choices before and during exercise should be tailored for individual athletes according to their unique needs and preferences.  Athletes and coaches should fine-tune these recommendations to identify their own winning formulas.
