Considerations for the Female Athlete

Society seems to exert enormous pressure on many women to achieve an unrealistic body weight and body fat level to be 'successful' in their activity or sport.

This can compromise both short-term athletic performance and long-term health, with the real possibility of long-term harm to reproductive health and to bone health.  The female athlete triad is a combination of three conditions: disordered eating, amenorrhea, and osteoporosis.  A female athlete can have one, two, or all three parts of the triad.
