Course Outline


The study of social studies is centred on one key issue, which is investigated through exploration and critical thinking of four related issues.


 

Key Issue: To what extent should we embrace globalization?

Key Outcome: Understand, assess, and respond to the complexities of globalization.



This course has six units of study.  Each unit requires that you do all the reading, discussions and assignments in a sequential process in order to open the next assignment and unit.

  1. Globalization and You - To what extent should globalization shape identity?
  2. Historical Globalization and Imperialism - How did historical globalization and imperialism shape today's world?
  3. Legacies of Imperialism - How should contemporary society respond to the legacies of historical globalization?
  4. Economic Foundations of Globalization/Challenges and Opportunities of Globalization - To what extent does globalization contribute to sustainable prosperity for all people?
  5. Stewardship and Sustainability - To what extent does globalization lead to sustainable prosperity for all people?
  6. Global Citizenship in the Global Village - To what extent should I, as a citizen, respond to globalization?
