Understand Hazard Identification for physical, chemical, biological, psychosocial and ergonomic factors.

Understand Hazard Assessment, including job-hazard analysis and/or process analysis
- Understand Hazard Controls, including elimination, engineering, administrative, personal protective equipment or a combination of more than one control.
- Demonstrate an understanding of legislation associated with workplace safety.
Key Concepts
- An accident is an incident that has caused one or more of: injury, property damage, environmental damage, loss of productivity, loss of profits.
- An incident is an event that could have, but did not, cause an injury.
- Loss causation models guide companies in preventing accidental loss.
- A hazard is anything that can cause injury or loss.
- Hazard Identification, assessment and control can help prevent injuries.
- Identification is seeing a hazard and knowing which of the 5 types of hazard it is.
- Assessment is knowing the risk of each hazard; whether it is a high, medium or low risk.
- Control is what may be done to limit the hazard from causing harm or loss; there are 3 methods of control.
