Section 1 Glossary
bias: an opinion, a prejudice, or a personal belief based on preconceived ideas
collective identity: a common or shared identity within a group of people; includes such factors as common language, culture, and history
criteria: standards for evaluating something
economics: the study of how economies work; the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services
economic system: the way a society organizes the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services
goods: things someone wants or needs
governance: the way a group or a nation is governed; the process of governing
individual identity: the way a person sees himself or herself based on a set of characteristics and values
issue: essential subject of dispute, or a situation or problem that connects to citizenship, identity, and quality of life
opinion: a personal reaction to an issue
perspective: values and ideas shared by people with a common language, culture, and history
point of view: an opinion and preference based on what an individual sees, hears, feels, or understands
quality of life: the happiness and contentment a person has with his or her life; includes many factors such as material wealth, freedoms, and/or job satisfaction
service: something that someone does, or a performance of any duty or work for another, helpful or professional; may include the provision of a public need and is not necessarily economic in origin
