Get Focused
Many schools have an active parent council that involves parents making decisions to improve the school community. Some parent councils ask the student body to nominate, appoint, or elect student representatives to join the councils to ensure the voices of students in the school are heard and considered during the council's decision-making process.
The way that a student might be selected to represent the student body on the parent council is similar to how Canadians choose representatives to serve them in Canada's federal government.
An important role for the student is to be answerable or accountable to the student body and parents.
accountable: responsible; requiring that one can explain his or her actions
