Workbook Summary
In this workbook, you investigated the following questions.
What factors influence immigration policies in Canada?
How does Canada benefit from immigration?
Canada has always believed that immigration has an important role in building Canadian culture. However, the policy on immigration has not always been the way it is today. Rather, Canada's immigration policy has evolved over time based on the beliefs
and the needs of the nation at the time. Today, the government policy is to assess the economic needs of the nation when considering whether to accept potential immigrants to Canada.
In Canada, immigration is seen generally as a positive experience for most. However, there are both benefits and costs attributed to immigration.
- Immigrants may have many ups and downs as they transition into life in their new nation.
- Long-time Canadians also have to adapt their lives as immigrants move to Canada.
In the next workbook, you will examine the criteria that the Canadian government uses to determine which potential immigrants will be accepted into Canada. You will also look at how these criteria affect the immigrants and refugees who are trying to build new lives for themselves.
