Activity 2: Immigration and Guaranteed Rights

Get Focused

What languages do you speak or hear at home, at school, or in your community? Perhaps the language you hear and/or speak is one (or more) of French, Ukrainian, Tagalog, German, Punjabi, Mandarin, Pashto, Swahili, Cree, or Inuktitut.

The many languages spoken in Canada are not limited to those mentioned above. In Toronto, for example, more than 100 languages are spoken. That so many languages are spoken is a result of Canada's immigration policy, which has an impact on the rights of Canadians.

In this activity, you will begin to examine this inquiry question:

How does the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms affect the individual rights of immigrants and refugees?
