Workbook 13
Activity 1: Immigration and the Aboriginal Community
Get Focused
The Aboriginal peoples of Canada have a long history in Canada. Reflect on previous lessons, including Activities 2 and 3 of Workbook 9 in Section 1 to review their collective identity and collective rights, the treaties surrounding their history, and the Indian Act.
You should be reminded that many treaties were signed so that the Canadian government could secure land for the future settlement of immigrants. As a result of many of these treaties, millions of people from around the world have made their homes in Canada, particularly during the past 100 years.
In this activity, you will answer this inquiry question:
What impact does increasing immigration have on Aboriginal peoples and communities?
