Section 2 Summary
In Section 2, you answered this question:
How do the Canadian and United States economic systems influence consumer decisions and quality of life?
Quality of life is based on many factors that include standard of living, GDP per capita, health, happiness, and security. Reflect on Workbook 16, Activity 1 in which you were asked what you would do with $1 million. Such a notion can change the way you see your life and the life choices that you make.
Consumer decision-making affects quality of life in many ways. Factors such as income, GDP per capita, health, and security influence the consumer decisions you make. Your identity, your job, the impact on the environment of the product you are contemplating buying, marketing, and other factors influence your consumer decisions.
Ultimately, it is consumer behaviour, underlying values, and government decisions that will affect the quality of life for you and all citizens living in mixed and market economies.
You have now completed your investigation of consumerism and quality of life. The knowledge you have gained will help you in the next unit as you continue your exploration of the influences of government and economic systems on each other and how consumerism impacts you as a citizen in Canada.
