The environment is influenced by human activity, which includes agriculture, oil and gas production, and urban development. The decisions concerning the environment are made by the government through policies and laws. However, environmental organizations, consumers, and other stakeholders may have input in the making of these government decisions. The economy also influences the decisions made about the environment. That individuals, groups, and the government work together is important for the benefit of all citizens, the environment, and the economy.

Climate change is a major environmental issue that affects the whole Earth. To become well-informed is important - not only on how climate change affects your quality of life, identity, and citizenship, but also how it impacts your community, province, country, and world.

At a local or community level, you may have a recycle, reuse, reduce program as a local government initiative to respond to environmental issues. Each local government may have various ideas and programs to respond to local, provincial, national, or global environmental issues.

Both the provincial and federal governments also have sustainability and environmental initiatives to respond to environmental issues. As initiatives are put in place, governments try to balance regional, political, and economic differences. Individual consumers and groups in society actively take on roles to work with government and help in the process of making political and economic decisions.
