In the previous unit, you learned that
globalization
Globalization is the process by which people around the world are becoming increasingly interconnected through trade, the media and migration. It has both positive and negative effects on individuals and societies.

imperialism
domination by one or more countries over others to gain power and wealth

It can be take place through the use of weapons, economic control or political power by a powerful nation.

Economic imperialism is when a powerful nation or a powerful corporation takes control of another country in order to make money for itself.

Cultural imperialism takes place when a dominant culture overpowers another culture.
Imperialism is one form of globalization in which a powerful country dominates and controls another country through military and political power, through control of its resources and money, and by trying to dominate the culture of the other country. Sometimes this is called "God, Gold, and Glory".

Canadian society developed because of imperialism. Although First Nations and Inuit people have lived in Canada for centuries, when the French and the British came to Canada, Canada became a

During the Industrial Revolution, many European countries controlled colonies around the world. Various parts of Canada were colonies of France and Britain, for example.

Colonization has had an effect on Canadian society, on Canada's First Nations and Inuit people, and on immigrants to Canada. In fact, imperialism shaped not only Canada but all of today's world.
