Unit Four Review

What are the origins of contemporary economic globalization?

In this unit, you considered the following questions:

  • What are some of the ideas that led to globalization as we know it?
  • How does the economy work?
  • Who should have the ultimate say in economic decision-making-individuals, governments, or international agencies?

What did you learn?

The economy is an important factor in our lives. Ideas about how the economy should work have been with us for as long as people have bought and sold goods and services. Economic globalization has shaped human history, and it continues to affect the way we live. Should the economy be allowed to operate on its own in the belief that the "invisible hand" will guide it correctly to benefit everyone? Or should there be rules enforced by national governments or international agencies?

In the next unit, you will consider effects of contemporary economic globalization. Your understanding of the foundations and the reality of globalization today will help you answer some key questions.

Review the main ideas and terms in the unit before you complete the quiz. If you do not know the answer to a question, look it up!

When questions are based on a source, read the question first so you know what you are looking for in the source. Then, look carefully at the source before you select an answer. Some questions have hints; read them carefully.

After reviewing the feedback on your first attempt, you may complete the quiz a second time. If you make a second attempt on the quiz, your mark will be the average of the two attempts.

Together, all unit reviews are worth 10% of your school-awarded mark.
