How to Write a Source Analysis

Understanding what you read and view is essential to understanding the world around you. The source analysis question on your exam, similar to writing assignment two on the provincial diploma exam, is a form of analytical writing.

Your job, when composing a source analysis, is to fully explore the meaning behind each source.

You will interpret three sources to identify what each one communicates about some aspect of globalization. Considering the three sources, you must then explain and defend a position on a question to do with some aspect of globalization.

For this assignment, you must

  • interpret each source to identify the ideas presented
  • explain and defend a position on a question
  • support their response by referring to the sources and their understanding of social studies

You must write in paragraph form, showing the quality of thought and communication expected of students in Social Studies 10-2.

  • Include one full paragraph about each source. Describe the source and explain what it has to do with globalization in order to answer the first question(Three in all)
  • Be sure that each paragraph clearly links the source, which can be a photo, cartoon, illustration, of piece of writing to question one
  • Write one paragraph explaining and defending your position on the issue presented. It will have something to do with your own views on globalization. Make sure to write a full paragraph giving reasons for your position
