How to Write a Response |
A letter to the editor of a newspaper, speech, or proposal is a form of persuasive writing. The written response question on your exam, similar to writing assignment three on the provincial diploma exam, is also a form of persuasive writing.
Your job, when composing a response, is to establish a position on an issue and defend it with good arguments and evidence.
Introduction, Body, and Conclusion:
-
Your response should begin with a clear introduction that outlines the problem and clearly states your position
-
If you are asked to discuss the views of others, make sure to discuss each of their viewpoints and explain whether or not you agree with it and why.
-
Provide arguments and evidence to support your position
-
Conclude with a convincing explanation of the value of your solution and the need for action.
