Lesson 28 — Activity 1:
The Dangerous Nature of Space
Explore
To realize just how dangerous space exploration is, you will watch the movie Apollo 13, which is about a near disastrous space accident.
People
had become very complacent about voyages into space as many had occurred
without any problems. Then came a near tragedy that made people realize
that space exploration was anything but routine. Three astronauts faced
the prospect of being left stranded in space with no chance of a rescue
after their spacecraft broke down. They were only saved by the creative
genius of engineers on Earth who worked to find a way to repair the
problem using items that were on the Apollo 13 spacecraft.
