Plot Diagram

A story evolves from two elements:
  1. An interesting character:  The character must be motivated.  What does he or she want?
  2. A conflict:   A problem or obstacle must be in the way of the character.  This is what makes a story interesting. How does the character achieve his or her goal?
Combining these two elements produces plot.
