Midterm Study Guide

The midterm exam is designed to be completed in 1.5 hours. You may have up to 3 hours to complete the exam if necessary. The exam is based on content you
learned in Units 1 to 3 AND the Conventions Unit of Language Arts 9.
However, Language Arts is a field of study where the central concepts were established in elementary school and you are simply refining and expanding your understanding, so you may use that previous knowledge and experience to help you answer the questions as well.

Prior to the exam:
- Review the Writing Conventions Workshops and your iSkills Start with the Sentence: Create Correct, Concise, Connected Sentences textbook particularly for parts of speech, punctuation, parallelism, coordination, subordination, apposition, and spelling.
- Review Unit 1 Short Stories I for reading strategies, story elements, understanding narrators and point of view.
- Review Unit 2 Essays for types of paragraphs, organization, thesis statements, and CUE.
- Review Unit 3 Poetry for examples of poetic techniques, form, and figurative language.
It is recommended that you have your iLit Language Arts 9 Anthology with you.
This exam is to be completed without the use of a dictionary, thesaurus, or any reference materials (including the iSkills Starts with the Sentence book).
This exam makes up 10% of your final grade for the course.Note: This exam requires a supervisor.
