Midterm Exam Format
Your midterm exam consists of matching questions, multiple-choice items and written responses.
Some multiple-choice items require you to recall information from Units 1 to 3. Some require you to read a piece of non-fiction, a poem, a visual, or to view a film before considering the item. The written response questions require you to respond to various pieces of writing. This exam review includes strategies to help you select your responses to items on your midterm exam.
Multiple-Choice Items
Multiple-choice items include a stem followed by four options.
You may find the following strategies helpful when completing multiple-choice items:
- Read the directions carefully.
- Skim the multiple-choice section carefully to see what information is wanted and to determine the amount of time you can afford to spend on this part of the test.
- Select the questions for which you know the answers and answer those first.
- Use the test as a source of information. The stem in one question might help you answer another one.
- Read the test a second time, and respond to those items that seemed more difficult to you. You may see clues for answers, or you may become more comfortable in the testing situation.
- Tackle the most difficult questions last.
- If you have time when finished the test, review both questions and answers. Change a response only if you misread a question the first time.
