What is imperialism?
When Europeans first came to North America, they established new settlements called colonies.
A colony is an area of land controlled by another country. France was the first European country to attempt to establish colonies in Canada.Empires were networks of colonies controlled by the “home country” or “mother country” back in Europe.
The process of establishing an empire is called imperialism.
