Imperialism means that the home country (for example, France) ships settlers to a new location (for example, North America) to establish colonies. The colony ships resources such as fish, fur, lumber, or metal back to the home country.

- Read pages 30 and 31 in your textbook to find the answer to the following question.
- Why would the home country want to establish colonies?
- Keep reading pages 32 to 35 of the textbook.
