Imperialism means that the home country (for example, France) ships settlers to a new location (for example, North America) to establish colonies. The colony ships resources such as fish, fur, lumber, or metal back to the home country.


Read


  1. Read pages 30 and 31 in your textbook to find the answer  to the following question.
      • Why would the home country want to establish colonies?

  2. Keep reading pages 32 to 35 of the textbook.
      • You will see there were four very important reasons the French wanted to come to Canada and settle.

        An explanation is also provided for each reason.

  3. Download and complete the Chapter 2, Lesson 1 chart.
