- Read pages 52 and 53 in your textbook. These pages explain the concept of mercantilism.
- Look at the diagram and painting of the British colony at Halifax and think about the questions asked in the βThink Aheadβ section.
- Read pages 55 to 57 of the textbook. These pages explain reasons Britain established the Thirteen Colonies.
- The chart on page 56 shows the flow of goods from the home country to the colonies.
- Page 57 shows a comparison chart of various reasons Britain and France had for colonizing North America.
- John Cabot was a famous explorer who founded what is now the province of Newfoundland.
- Read pages 59 and 60 of the textbook that explain how the fisheries and fishing villages were established in Newfoundland.
