The invasion of Quebec failed; however, the War of Independence was successful. In 1783, Britain recognized the United States of America as its own country.
What triggered the Loyalist migration to Canada?
In 1776, many colonists living in the Thirteen Colonies opposed the war. These people became known as the United Empire Loyalists.
They opposed war for many reasons. The Americans treated the Loyalists as traitors, and many of the Loyalists became refugees fleeing to Canada for shelter and safety.
Remember that immigrants came to Canada for a better life. The Loyalists were some of the first immigrants to develop a life in Canada.
