Towards Confederation



Activity

Believe it or not, not everyone liked the idea of Confederation.

You will see the various perspectives of the colonies and the people who helped initiate Confederation.


  1. Download the document, Confederation and the Maritime Colonies and the Structure of Canadian Government.

    Please save your work to a file on your desktop so you will have a copy to refer back to.

  2. Click on one of the links provided to download the document.
      • You will then be able to view the Confederation and the Maritime Colonies and Structure of Canadian Government worksheet.

  3. Answer the questions in the document as you read the assigned pages in the textbook.

  4. Read pages 155 to 157 of the textbook.
      • You will learn about why this period was considered the β€œGolden Age” for some colonies.

  5. Read pages 158 to 164 of the textbook.

  6. The maps on page 160 of the textbook and on this webpage show Canada and its first four provinces in 1867.
      • Compare the map of Canada today to Canada when these colonies formed a union.

  7. When you have completed your document, go to the next page.
