Read pages 166 and 167 in your textbook.


  1. View the timeline of events from 1867 to 1905. You should see some similarities from what you watched in the video to the events listed.
  2. Construct a timeline by choosing one of the following:
      • Microsoft PowerPoint template (open PowerPoint and search for PowerPoint templates)
      • Word document
      • other appropriate format

  3. Title your timeline, Canada: After Confederation. Record events from 1840 onward.
  4. As you read the next three chapters, give attention to the dates when significant things happen during this period.
  5. At the end of Unit 3, you will be asked to identify ten of these events that helped shape Canada during this period. 
  6. Add important dates to your timeline as you work through the next three chapters.

When you see this clock symbol in the lessons, likely you will note an important date to add to your timeline.

The mid - to late - 1800s and early 1900s were an important time for Canada. Major events occurred and new provinces were formed.
