Newfoundland chose not to join Confederation in 1867.
In 1867, Newfoundland felt disconnected from the other British colonies and was not interested in joining a union.
The economy of Newfoundland and Labrador had been based on exporting natural resources such as fish, wood, and minerals.
In the 1930s, conditions began to change in Newfoundland, and colonists again began to consider joining Canada.
