UNIT 4

After Confederation - Part 2

Unit 4 Introduction

How have events and policies since Confederation shaped Canadian society?

Many political, demographic, economic, and social changes have occurred in Canada since Confederation.

These changes have presented challenges and opportunities for people living in Canadian communities.

The Canadian government developed a plan to encourage immigration to the West.  This led to an influx of people to Canada.

In Unit 4, you will learn the answers to the following questions.

  • How did immigration to Canada affect the identity of this country?
  • From which countries did the immigrants come?
  • What was the effect of immigration on those who already lived in the West?
