Read the many perspectives on the National Policy on page 267 and the bottom of page 284 of the textbook.

You studied the National Policy in Chapter 9. Remember, that the National Policy was like three policies in one.  It contained

  1. Immigration Policy: to encourage farmers to settle in the West
  2. Transportation Policy: to build a railway across the country
  3. Economic Policy: to help the economy grow by setting tariffs on foreign goods, which encouraged Canadians to buy Canadian goods
