Many Canadian government policies influenced the development of Western Canada in the 1800s and 1900s.
Recall that, in 1878, Prime Minister John A. Macdonald developed the National Policy to stimulate growth in the West. This policy included components of transportation, immigration, and economics. The parts of the National Policy were all designed help stimulate growth in Canada, particularly in Western Canada.
The First Nations people were in Canada long before the arrival of the Europeans.
