  2. Read pages 269 to 271 of the textbook.
      • The First Nations and MΓ©tis were the first to feel the effects of new settlements in the West.
      • In the late 1800s, the buffalo hunt and fur trade were ending and much of the land was being turned into farms.
      • The First Nations and the federal government tried to resolve their issues through the treaty process.
      • First Nations in Western Canada reached 11 settlements called Numbered Treaties with the Canadian government between 1871 and 1921.
