      • People from Eastern Europe were the largest group of immigrants to the Prairies in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

      • Eastern Europeans were very proud of their culture and set up many Polish, Ukrainian, Romanian, and Hungarian communities throughout the West.

  3. Read pages 276 to 277 in your textbook.
      • People from China were among the first immigrants to western Canada. They first came to participate in the British Columbia Gold Rush in 1858, and thousands later worked on the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR).
