Unit 4
After Confederation - Part 2
Improve your Community
In Unit 4, you learned that active citizens participate in society and work to improve their communities.
For this unit assessment, you will think as an active citizen and develop a plan to improve some aspect of your community.
- Follow the steps below to develop your plan:
- Brainstorm a list of problems or issues in your community that you might like to address. (Page 331 of the textbook provides some examples that may be helpful.)
- Narrow your list of problems or issues to items that you may actually be able to do. Eliminate items that may be too complicated, too large, or too expensive for you to address.
- Choose one problem or issue from your remaining list.
- Organize your ideas for your plan by addressing the following questions. Use complete sentences when addressing each of the questions.
- Who will be affected by your plan? Consider all the groups in your community (such as students, teachers, business people, etc.) who may be affected by your plan.
- Who can help you with your plan? Consider all people in your community (such as students, parents, business owners, etc.) who will be able to assist you with your plan.
- What resources will you need for your plan to work? Consider all resources you will require, such as people, materials, and tools.
- What information do you need to ensure your plan is successful? For example, do you need to interview members of your community to find out if they are interested in your plan?
-
Who will do each of the tasks required? Show clearly who will do each task.
-
How long would your plan require to be completed? Explain why you believe the time frame you have identified is appropriate to complete your plan.
