Page 1 Mid-term Preparation


This exam was designed to be completed in one and a half hours, however, double-time is available, if necessary. The exam is based on the content you learned in Units 1 to 3 of Language Arts 8. Once you start the exam, you will see a timer that counts down from 3 hours.  Note: Please bring headphones to the exam because you will be analyzing a video clip.

Multiple-Choice & Matching (Grammar)
Short Answer Questions (Units 1 to 3 Content) 
Reading Comprehension (Poetry)
Writing Assignment (Letter, Journal or Essay format)




Prior to the exam:

  1. Review Glossary terms in Units 1 to 3. Click here to access the Units 1-3 Glossary.
  2. Review Parts of Speech, Sentence Types, Lengths, Punctuation, and Grammar in Units 1 to 3.

  4. Review Unit 2 Nonfiction for examples of nonfiction writing, sentence, paragraph, and essay construction. 
  5. Review Unit 3 Poetry for kinds of poetry studied, examples of poetic techniques, and figurative language.



This exam is to be completed without the use of a dictionary, thesaurus, or any reference materials.

Before you begin to write this exam, read through the entire exam quickly, so you know what you are required to do. You have up to 3 hours in which to complete the exam, so distribute your time accordingly.

This exam will make up 10% of your final grade for the course.
